Session Information

Free-electron-light interactions benefit from advances in photonics in several aspects. First, novel photonic materials have been shown to enhance the coupling strength between free electrons and light. The enhanced coupling promotes the development of innovative light sources, particularly tunable radiation sources derived from the engineering of these materials. Second, traditional investigations of quantum electrodynamics often require stringent conditions, such as high-intensity fields for Kappa-Dirac effects and ultra-high photon energies for Compton scattering. However, recent advances in photonics have significantly relaxed the requirements for observing quantum effects across a broad spectrum. This section highlights recent developments in free-electron-light interactions facilitated by innovative photonic platforms.
