Session Information

Nanophotonics in 2D materials explores the interaction of light with materials that are only a few atoms thick, such as graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). These 2D materials exhibit unique optical properties that differ significantly from their bulk counterparts due to their reduced dimensionality and strong quantum effects. This field has gained considerable attention for its potential to revolutionize a range of technologies, including sensors, photodetectors, and communication systems.
2D materials are often utilized to enhance light-matter interactions, enabling phenomena such as strong light absorption, photoluminescence, and surface plasmon resonance at the nanoscale. For instance, graphene's high electron mobility and tunable optical response make it an excellent candidate for applications in broadband optical devices and ultra-sensitive sensors. Similarly, TMDs exhibit a range of optical properties including direct bandgap transitions that are highly suitable for photodetectors and light-emitting devices.
Nanophotonics in 2D materials represents a cutting-edge area of research with transformative potential. Continued advancements in this field are likely to lead to significant technological breakthroughs, driving innovations in various sectors including information technology, environmental science, and healthcare.
