PIERS —— A global symposium committed to
advancing photonics and electromagnetics for the benefit of humanity.
Ocean satellite remote sensing stands as a cornerstone of global Earth observation, providing critical data for understanding climate change, monitoring marine ecosystems, managing coastal resources, and ensuring maritime safety. The dynamic and complex nature of the ocean surface presents unique challenges and opportunities for remote sensing. Advances in mission concepts, state-of-the-art payload technologies, and sophisticated remote sensing algorithms are continuously pushing the boundaries of what we can observe and quantify from space.
This session aims to bring together scientists, engineers, and application specialists to discuss the latest breakthroughs and future directions across the full value chain of ocean satellite remote sensing. We welcome contributions that address the development of novel satellite missions, innovative sensor technologies, advanced data processing and inversion algorithms, and their transformative applications in oceanography, hydrology, cryosphere studies, and operational services.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
• Next-generation ocean satellite mission concepts and architectures.
• Advances in active and passive microwave, optical, infrared, and GNSS-Reflectometry payloads for ocean observation.
• Novel algorithms for retrieving sea surface height, wind, wave, temperature, salinity, current, sea ice, and water quality parameters.
• Data fusion and synergy between multiple sensors and satellite constellations.
• Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for ocean data processing, model integration, and feature detection.
• Applications in climate research, ocean forecasting, blue economy, coastal zone management, and disaster monitoring.
• Calibration/validation (Cal/Val) activities and in-situ data integration.
