Session Information

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a premier diagnostic tool, yet its fundamental performance --- signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), spatial resolution, imaging speed, and anatomical coverage --- is governed not by the scanner's magnets alone, but by the intricate electromagnetic (EM) systems that interact with the nuclear spins. This focused session, "Electromagnetics for Magnetic Resonance Imaging," aims to bridge the specialized domains of advanced electromagnetic research and engineering and clinical MRI physics. It will provide a dedicated forum to discuss the progress in critical EM components of an MRI system: the radiofrequency (RF) coils that excite spins and receive signals, the gradient coils that encode spatial information, and the shielding systems that ensure safety and fidelity. Also the related MR methods for signal and image processing are of our interest. The session will cover cutting-edge topics including the design and modeling of high-density parallel transmit/receive coil arrays for accelerated imaging; the development of ultra-high-field (7T and beyond) RF solutions managing EM wave propagation effects; innovations in gradient coil technology; and advanced EM simulation techniques for assessing specific absorption rate (SAR) and ensuring patient safety. Presentations will explore novel materials (e.g., metamaterials, high-temperature superconductors), computational methods (full-wave solvers, optimization algorithms), and integrated system designs that push the boundaries of what MRI can achieve.
