PIER Lifetime Achievement Award

Starting from 2026, The Electromagnetics Academy (TEMA) is pleased to announce the establishment of several new awards within the field of PhotonIcs and Electromagnetics Research (PIER).

PIER Lifetime Achievement Award

The PIER Lifetime Achievement Award is the most prestigious recognition bestowed by The Electromagnetics Academy to honor individuals whose seminal, sustained contributions have fundamentally shaped the fields of photonics and electromagnetics over the course of their career. This award is reserved for the true pioneers whose work has created new paradigms, inspired generations, and left a lasting legacy in science and technology.

Eligibility & Requirements

  • Age: Candidates must be over 60 years of age.
  • Nomination: Nomination from a Fellow of The Electromagnetics Academy or a General Chair of the upcoming PIERS symposium is required.
  • Documentation: A comprehensive CV for the candidate is required. The final two sections of the CV must be dedicated to the following:
    I. Summary of Seminal Contributions:
    An in-depth summary of one or two of the candidate's most transformative contributions, emphasizing their originality, influence on subsequent research, and sustained impact on the progress of photonics and electromagnetics.
    II. Professional Society Activities
    (i) PIER-Related Activities: Contributions to PIERS (Photonics and Electromagnetics Research Symposium) conferences and PIER (Progress In Electromagnetics Research) journals (including the premium new journal: PIER Photonics).
    (ii) External Activities: Involvement or participation in other (non-PIER) professional societies.
    III. Awards, Recognitions, and Global Influence

Awardees will be selected by the Award Committee of The Electromagnetics Academy through anonymous voting.

Online nominations are now open. Both the award nomination and candidate registration must be submitted by April 30, 2026.

The list of the recipients of the 2026 PIER Awards will be posted on this PIERS webpage.
